Four area teams take part in the Pocahontas Relays
POCAHONTAS - Friday saw Storm Lake, Alta-Aurelia, Newell-Fonda and Sioux Central all travel to Pocahontas for the Pocahontas Relays. Storm Lake finished sixth in class A with 38 points as Humboldt won. Alta-Aurelia finished fourth out of six teams with 106 points in class B with host school Pocahontas Area taking first. Sioux Central took second with 147 points and Newell-Fonda fourth with 63 points out of six teams in class C, Bishop Garrigan finishing first.
Storm Lake results: Chris Shima took sixth in the 400 meter dash with a final of 56.29 seconds. Dylan Cavanaugh finished third in the 3200 meter run with a final of 10:27.29. Nicholas Oleson finished sixth in the 400 hurdles with a final of 1:04.65. Storm Lake took sixth in the 4x100 with a time of 48.81 seconds and sixth again in the 4x200 with a time of 1:54.33. The 4x400 group finished second with a time of 3:41.64 and then fifth in the 4x800 with a final of 9:41.22. The sprint medley group took fifth with a time of 1:52.14 and then sixth in the shuttle hurdle with a final of 1:26.73.
Parker Lange took second in the long jump with a final jump of 19-03.50 and Manny Chavez finished seventh in the event. Du’von Swain took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 41-08.5 and Dustin Ebel sixth with a final of 40-09.25. Swain finished fifth in the discus with a final throw of 120-06 and Jorge Sandoval finished seventh.
Alta-Aurelia results: Nick Gaes took first in the shot put and discus with a heave of 43-03.5 in the shot put and 118-03 in the discus. Anthony Krier took first in the long jump with a final of 20-03 and Michael Ryherd finished second with a jump of 18-06.5. Chandler Damewood finished second in the high jump with a final of 5-06.
Kaleb Sleezer finished third in the 100 meter dash with a final of 11.42 seconds and then took second in the 200 meter with a sprint of 23.33 seconds. Jared Weiland took first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.83 seconds and Gaes finished third with a final of 16.3 seconds. Weiland took second in the 400 hurdles with a final of 59.17 seconds. The Warriors took fourth in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 events.
The sprint and distance medley teams took sixth. The shuttle hurdle group of Damewood, Gaes, Michael Weiland and J. Weiland finished fourth with a final run of 1:07.96.
“Another chilly night on the track but we managed to get eight career bests tonight,” A-A coach Wendell Larson said. “We continue to excel in the field events scoring 46 points. Jared (Weiland) has been running great in practice and when we put in him the 400 meter low (hurdles) he certainly delivered. We will host our own meet on our new track on Tuesday night. We are hoping the community members and surrounding area will come out and see us compete on our new track.”
Newell-Fonda results: Joseph Rosas took fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.2 seconds and Austin Gerdes finished third in the 400 meter dash with a final of 56.42. Riley Tiffany took fifth in the 1600 with a final of 5:37.22 and then first in the 3200 with a time of 11:37.37. The Mustangs took third in the 4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley on the day. They finished third in the 4x200 and then fourth in the 4x800.
Jacob Carlson and Coltin Schachtner-Kramer took fourth and fifth in the shot put with final throws of 38-00.75 and 37-09.5 respectively. Schachtner-Kramer finished second in the discus with a final of 135-09.
Sioux Central results: The 100 meter dash saw Jacob Schomaker and Roberto Flores take third and fifth with times of 11.74 and 11.83 seconds. The 200 had Schomaker take third with a final of 24.06 seconds and Kyle Hatch finishing fifth with a final of 24.53. Hatch then took second in the 400 with a final of 55.82 seconds. Chase Jessen finished second in the 800 with a final of 2:22.47. Wyatt Erickson finished fourth in the 1600, 5:30.70, and second in the 3200, 11:45.27.
Matt Saunders and Teegan Pritchard took first and third in the 110 hurdles with times of 16.52 and 18.14 seconds. Saunders and Levi Marcoux finished second and fourth in the 400 hurdles with a final of 1:02.25 and 1:04.53. The Rebels took first in the 4x100 with a time of 46.47 seconds and the first in the 4x200 with a final of 1:37.38. They then took second in the 4x400, 4x800, sprint medley and shuttle hurdle events. They finished third in the distance medley.
Marcoux took second in the high jump with a final of 5-06 and Blake Cavanaugh finished third in the long jump with a final leap of 17-03.25. Carter Beckman took sixth in the shot put with a final heave of 37-04.50.
Storm Lake will run again tonight at Cherokee, Alta-Aurelia traveled to Holstein on Monday night and will host a meet tonight, Sioux Central will travel to Alta-Aurelia and Newell-Fonda traveled to Holstein on Monday night.
