Mavis Koth-Jacobson

Mavis was born May 9, 1930 in Albert City. She was the daughter of Clarence and Opal (Chindlund) Combes. She spent most of her young life in Alta where she was raised and graduated from high school. After high school Mavis worked at an ice cream shop and local dry cleaners. She was united in marriage to Harlin Koth in November 1950 and they began their life together in Rembrandt. They had two children, Rebecca and Brent. In 1960 they moved to Rosemount, Minnesota.

Mavis was a school secretary at Rosemount Elementary School for 26 years. In November 1988 Harlin passed away. Mavis was united in marriage to Loren Jacobson in February 1996 and they moved to Dundas, Minnesota after her retirement.

Mavis was the sweetest lady you ever met. She was loved by so many people who were drawn to her kind, loving and gracious ways. Her house was beautifully kept. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She passed on her love of baking to her grandchildren who entered food competitions at the Dakota County Fair winning awards and a Grand Champion award.

Mavis passed away Monday, February 27 at the age of 86 at Lee County Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida, while on vacation visiting family. She is survived by her husband Loren of Dundas, daughter Rebecca Koth of Eagan, son Brent (Tami) Koth of Eagan, two grandchildren Morgan (Joren) Skugrud of Minneapolis, Brandon Koth of Las Vegas, Nevada, stepchildren Lorene (Wayne) Thorn of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kathy (Dan) Andreasen of Wadsworth, Ohio, Sharla (Mark) Fillhouer of Prior Lake, step-grandchildren Andrew and Derek Thorn, Danielle and Jacob Andreasen, Scott, Amy and Kate Fillhouer and two great-step-grandchildren. Mavis is also survived by a sister, Doris (Cliff) Schmidt of Storm Lake, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her first husband Harlin, her parents, and two brothers, Don and Tom.

Funeral services were on Monday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Peterís Lutheran Church in Northfield with the Reverend David Weeks officiating. Visitation was Sunday, March 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be at Rosemount Cemetery.
