District Piano Auditions held January 28
The District Piano Auditions sponsored by the Iowa Music Teachers’ Association were held January 28 at Morningside College, Sioux City. Students participating played at least three contrasting selections from memory, demonstrated knowledge of scales, and wrote a 50-question theory exam. The students were grouped into levels by age.
Nora Peterson, Aurelia, daughter of Tim and Kathy Peterson, played on Level A (9-years of age or younger) and received a I rating. Of the 14 students playing on that level, she was one of four given special recognition as an Honorable Mention performance. Nora further distinguished herself by being one of four (all levels) to be named to the Theory Honor Roll for receiving a 90% or above on her theory test. She is a student of Suzanne Winterhof, a nationally certified teacher of music by the IMTA.
Other Winterhof students participating were Roman Napierala, Alta, who received a II rating in Level B, and Beauna Thammathai, Storm Lake, who received a Division I rating with Honorable Mention in Level D.
