Tuesday, November 15, 2016

Storm Lake Middle School had 28 students travel to Rock Rapids to compete in the Middle School Mock Trial. Mock trial is a program designed to introduce students to our legal system by providing a challenging, academic competition. The program offers students an opportunity for personal growth and achievement, emphasizing the importance of research, presentation, and teamwork.

Over the last 15 years, the Iowa Bar Association has been challenged to create more difficult cases as student skills continue to improve through experience and practice.

Nearly 2,000 middle school students participate in the Iowa Middle School Mock Trial program, the largest in the nation.

SLMS students studied and presented the case of the Estate of Alejandro Desafios vs. Storm Chase, LLC. Special thanks to Phil Havens for helping as the attorney coach as well as Ryan Moore and Brett Redenbaugh for participating as judges at the competition.
