Open House planned to dedicate new auditorium

Thursday, June 30, 2016

After frustrating delays earlier in the project, the new performance auditorium at Storm Lake High School is rapidly coming together in a race to finish before school resumes in August.

Workers this week are beginning to install the seats in the cavernous facility, a little earlier than had been expected. They will be covered with plastic to avoid damage as work continues. Stone and fabric wall coverings are in place, painting is taking place and the massive stage for now is sealed off with blue construction sheeting. Outside, work is focused on the southwest and northwest side.

While the time frame is "crunching," the Storm Lake District still plans to be read to hold an Open House for the new auditorium on August 21, at 2 p.m. - giving the public a look at the facility before the students return to school starting on the 23rd, Superintendant Carl Turner says.

Planned are inaugural performances for the new stage by band, orchestra and local student groups, speeches, and tours of the facility and other newly added or renovated areas of the school complex.

The project appears to be coming in as expected on budget.
