Howard E. Banks, age 87, of Alta, passed away on Monday, May 2, at the North Lake Manor of Storm Lake. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 4, at 11:30 a.m. at the Faith Bible Christian Outreach of Storm Lake with the Rev. Loren Carlson officiating. There will be no burial or visitation. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta is in charge of the arrangements.
Howard E. Banks was born October 21, 1928 in Tiffin, Ohio to Voris and Ida (Lumis) Banks. In 1945 he joined the United States Navy in 1945 for two years, then joined the United States Army in 1947 for three years. After the service he tried out for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Howard was an ambulance driver in his early years, and then became a janitor. He also was a professional driver, and drove all over the United States and Canada.
He was united in marriage to Betty Bourne. To this union three children were born.
He is survived by his wife Betty Banks of Storm Lake; children, James oh Phoenix, AZ, Richard of Ft. Dodge and Jeannette and husband Tim Loraditch of Alta; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Cliff.
