Area golfers gear up for Sectionals

The 2014 golf season is in full force getting closer to sectional and district play and many area athletes are posting solid average scores, ones that look promising to make a run in the post season.

The lowest average for the boys in the area is posted by Devin Grossnickle of Laurens-Marathon who is carding a 38.5 average nine hole score. Grossnickle's lowest round on the year is a even-par 36. Grossnickle in his last meet broke the school record for most medals in his career with 12.

Josh McCormick of Alta-Aurelia is posting the second best average in the area with a 39.5, McCormick's lowest round is a one-under 35. Brady Dicks of Newell-Fonda comes in a close third as he is posting an even 4-over 40. Jack Glienke of Alta-Aurelia is just behind Dicks, with an average of 40.1 per nine holes. Blake Berry of Storm Lake rounds out the top five scores for the area with is 40.8, Berry has only played 18 hole rounds this year, with his 18 hole average being an even 80.

On the girls' side, Jenna Snyder of Alta-Aurelia is leading the way for the girls as she is posting an average nine score of 42.5 through seven meets. Lexie Patton also of Alta-Aurelia is posting an average score of 44, Erica Lockin of Alta-Aurelia is carding an average round score of 44.8. Jade Hess of Newell-Fonda is leading the Mustangs with a nine hole average of 46 and Grace Dierenfield of Storm Lake rounds out top five scores for the area as she is carding a nine hole average of 49.

Newell-Fonda was selected to host the Class 1A boys' sectional golf meet Friday, May 16th at 9:30 a.m.
