Doug Hines, age 58, of Sac City, passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, March 14.

Douglas Keith Hines was born on Dec. 7, 1954 in Sac City, to parents Keith and Judith (Porter) Hines. He grew up on a farm north of Sac City and attended school in Sac City. Doug graduated from Sac City High School in 1973. He went on to further his education at Morningside College in Sioux City, where he played football for four years.

He was baptized in December 1954 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and confirmed into St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sac City in 1969. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sac City.

Doug was a farmer and a musician. He continued farming the family farm north of Sac City, and his love of music was no secret to anyone. He played keyboard and was in many bands and performances over the years. Some of his bands included: Hines Gordon Band, Party Dogs, August, Miss Molly, Private Numbers, Tabasco Cats, Erick Hovey Band, FRB, Hines & Henry and Prairieland Band. He enjoyed biking various trails, had an affinity for the outdoors, took pride in his home, enjoyed riding his Harley, and loved spending time with his girls and watching them dance. He will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Leslie Hines (Trenton "Trench" Kos) of North Liberty; Jessica Hines (Jason "Waggs" Waggie) of Wall Lake; and Haley Hines of Iowa City; parents: Keith and Judith Hines of Sac City; significant friend Joann Reimers of Schaller; sisters: Lesa (Reggie) Ringgenberg of Sac City and Kim Mason and Bruce Mason; nieces and nephews: Abby (Tyler) Rix, Andy (Amanda) and Lyla Corderman, Ayla (Tim) and Karter Erickson and Alyssa Ringgenberg; Tracy (Jake) Morgan, Ben (Katie) Maddy and Carlie Mason, Laura Mason and Danny Mason; step-son David Rogers and step-daughter Melissa Rogers (Mitch) Dettman; extended family members and a host of friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents: Forrest and Ella Hines and Hubert and Melva Porter.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sac City.
