Donald Skelton, age 71, of Rochester, Minn. and formerly of Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids, died Feb. 2, 2013 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. The Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb is in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Ray Skelton was born Oct. 11, 1941 to Raymond and Dorothy (Stephenson) Skelton in Spencer. He grew up in the Linn Grove and Sioux Rapids areas before his family relocated to Minnesota when he was a teenager. Donald attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1961. In his youth, Donald enjoyed many sports, especially baseball, and earned recognition as a Golden Gloves boxer.
On Jan. 5, 1963, Donald was united in marriage to Jolene Laskewitz. Together, they were blessed with two children, Michael and Mark.
Donald was a truck driver for various trucking companies in the Rochester area. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Michael (Melissa) Skelton of Hutchinson, Minn.; and Mark Skelton of Hutchinson, Minn.; grandchildren: Hannah and Derek Skelton and Bailey Skelton-Mateo; his mother, Dorothy Skelton of Kalispell, Mont.; brother, Dale Skelton of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters: Margaret (Charles) Green of Kalispell, Mont.; Jan (Larry) Brazda of Lakeside, Mont.; Jean (Lee) Peterson of Cresco; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Skelton in 1990; grandparents, Floyd and Grace Skelton of Sioux Rapids and Minnie Stephenson of Marathon.
