SL mail jailed after choking wife, knife threat

Friday, February 1, 2013

A Storm Lake man has been jailed without bond after allegedly attempting to strangle his wife and threatening her with a knife.

Police were called to an apartment in the 1700 block of Tulip Lane shortly after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday for an unknown problem, and were told by the victim that she and her husband, 30-year-old Hung Tran, had argued. Tran allegedly began to choke the woman, and threatened her with the weapon. He had fled the scene prior to arrival of officers, but returned to the apartment while officers were still there, and was arrested without incident.

Following an investigation police charged Tran with Domestic Assault / Strangulation and Going Armed With Intent (both felonies). Tran was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail. The woman was not seriously injured.

Tran is a native of Vietnam, and his citizenship status is listed an unknown on jail records, which indicate two prior arrests, in 2011 and 2012 , for OWI.
