9 SLMS musicians in festival

Friday, February 1, 2013

The Storm Lake Middle School 6th and 7th-8th grade bands were honored to have nine students selected to participate in the annual Karl King Honor Band Festival. Held on January 19th in Fort Dodge, the festival honors the legacy of Karl King, world famous bandleader and composer. The 6th grade band included Georgea Luedtke, oboe, Jessica Baker, clarinet, Abigail Lesemann, trumpet, Jackeline Gomez, trombone, and Robert Petersen, tuba. This band was directed by Mrs. Kristin Bodholdt, from Newell. The 7th grade band included McKrina Lopez and Rachel Luna, clarinet, Marc DelaCruz, tuba, and Thomas Demers, percussion. This band was conducted by Mr. Guy Blair, from Pella. Following chair placement auditions and all day rehearsals, the bands performed a concert featuring a variety of band literature, which included a standard Karl King march. Holli Safley and Barbara Wells teach the SLMS music students.
