Maple Valley Ag 4-H Notes

The regular meeting of the Maple Valley Ag 4-H Club was Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Alta Elementary Gym.
The meeting was called to order by secretary Rachael Arnts with 19 members in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Keaton Mork.
The meeting began with Danielle Peterson giving a presentation on how to make almond bark snowman cookies.
Then the secretary's and treasurer's report were given and approved. Bills: Thank yous, $8; patch pictures, $25; elementary rent, $100; postage stamps and reimbursing the Providence 4-H Club. All bills were approved.
Birthdays: Sydney Berenschot.
Old business: Please pay your enrollment fees if you haven't done so.
New business: Thank you to the Alta Library for their donation to MVA. Cheryl Arnts is now in charge of the club finances. Also starting in 2013,the club meetings will be moved back to Saturdays instead of sundays.
Dates to remember: Beef weigh-in in on Dec. 8. There will be a sewing workshop on Jan. 2 and a babysitting clinic on Jan. 5. You can still register for the CWF trip.
The meeting was adjourned with the 4-H Pledge led by Grace Arnts.
Presenters were Rachael and Matthew Arnts and Ashley Peterson. Ashley did a presentation on how to make almond bark-covered Oreos. Rachael gave a presentation on how to raise fair pigs and Matthew did his presentation on gun safety.
Afterwards, the club did their annual gift exchange, had snacks served by the hosts and then went Christmas caroling at Wel-Life and to other Alta residents.
The next meeting will be Jan. 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Cherokee Wellness Center.
Next meeting host and presenter will be Anna Cox.

The regular meeting for the Maple Valley Ag 4-H Club was held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Cherokee Wellness Center. The hosts were Anna Cox and Drew Hinners.
After swimming and other activities, the meeting was called to order at 3 p.m. by president Jayden Van Berkum with 21 members in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Danielle Peterson. The secretary's and treasurer's report was given and approved.
Birthdays: Mason Peterson, Jayden Van Berkum, Carly Drenth, Grace Newell and Keaton Mork.
Bills: $100 to a needy family; $115 Wellness Center; $64.20 for pizza. These bills were approved.
New business: MVA received a total of $145 in donations from Christmas caroling.
Dates to remember: Jan. 20 there will be a poultry workshop at 2 p.m. There will be a new member meeting on Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. sign up for special swine and special sheep begins Feb. 1. On Feb. 2 there will be a babysitting workshop at 9 a.m. There will be a beginners photography workshop on Feb. 16. On Feb. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon there will be a breads workshop and there is also a pottery workshop that day from 1-3 p.m. A bottle/bucket workshop will be held March 25 at 6:30 p.m.
The 4-H basketball tournament will be held on April 7. A dog obedience workshop will be held on April 8 at 6:30 p.m. Also, FSQA will be on April;l 29 from 6-8 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned with the 4-H pledge led by Katie Van Berkum.
The presenters were Anna Cox and Drew Hinners. Drew showed us how to blow up a balloon with baking soda and Anna gave a presentation on geocaching.
After the presentations the club had a pizza party.
The next meeting will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Alta Elementary Gym. Next meeting's host and presenter will be Grace Newell.
