ALTA - Alta-Aurelia jumped out to an 18-14 lead after one, but the Warriors were unable to keep up the scoring pace as Manson Northwest Webster grabbed a 29-28 halftime lead on their way to a 63-53 win over the A-A boys on Friday night.
Jayden Van Berkum knocked down 7-of-12 shots on his way to a 20-point night. He added three rebounds. Mitchel McDonald followed with 11 points and 11 rebounds, Ross Friedrich had six points and six assists, Titus Letzring had five points and four boards, Jayson Van Haaften five points and three rebounds, and Colton Ballantyne five points and four rebounds.
"Our post players in the first half did a really nice job, especially Jayden," said Alta-Aurelia head coach Randy Bissen. "We did a nice job of attacking their press and got some easy ones in transition. We went into halftime being down one when we should have been up five or six. We had a couple lapses on the defensive end and gave up some offensive rebounds for easy baskets. That gave them some momentum going into the second half. In the third, Manson hit some key shots and we failed to convert offensively. Overall, we felt really good about the teams effort. We are definitely making progress and hope to be playing our best basketball come district time."
The loss drops the Warriors to 7-9 overall. They are on the road at Laurens-Marathon tonight and Newell-Fonda on Friday.
