Boy Scout Troop reaches bronze level in Journey to Excellence

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Boy Scout Troop 104 recently achieved the Bronze Level in the Journey to Excellence for 2012. The Journey to Excellence is a national performance assessment, communication, and recognition program for boy scout troops. The program uses a balanced approach and key performance indicators to measure outcomes with increased emphasis in quality programs. The troop has national standards to assess performance in key areas, including: camping, service projects, membership, retention, training, advancement and leadership.

"We are really proud of our scouts and all they have achieved this past year. In fact, we have decided we're going to go for the Gold Level of Achievement in 2013!" says Troop Scoutmaster Marion Johnson.

Last year's service projects included the Parade of Flags for Memorial Day, flag retirement ceremonies, ditch cleaning and volunteering at Santa's Castle. The troop had 10 scouts attend summer camp in Wisconsin and offered weekend camping nine months throughout the year. Troop 104 had three scouts become Eagle Scouts in 2011 and currently have one scout preparing for his Eagle Scout project later this spring.
