The Titans entered on a seven-game win streak and with a 15-2 record overall, and they would hold a 9-6 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs held slight control at half with a 20-18 lead, but a 14-8 run in the third quarter would provide them enough breathing room to lock up the win.

"This was a tournament atmosphere game," said Newell-Fonda head coach Dick Jungers. "It was a rugged defensive battle. South Central Calhoun is a tremendous team that is very well coached. Fortunately, we made enough plays and hit our free throws to secure the game."
