Teams of three had only one hour to complete their models' hair, nails and makeup before judging. The contest was held in preparation for Cosmetologists and Barbers of Iowa's Mane Event Feb. 10 in Altoona, where cosmetology students across the state can compete for cash prizes.
"The kids really enjoyed this event," said Marge Rydberg, Faust Storm Lake Campus Director. "They really found it exciting, doing something different within a fantasy idea, which allows them to use their creativity."
"We have been placing very high in the event," Rydberg said, noting students have been receiving top awards at least seven years in a row at the state event.
At the prepatory competition Monday, "Arabic Bride," created by Storm Lake students Kirsten Adams, Sarah Tjaden and Bessy Acebedo, with model Yasmin Santizo, took first place. "Elizabeth Taylor," styled by Storm Lake students Jamie Clark, Jill Cougill and Angela Kreger, with model Madison Peck, took second, while "Ice Bride," fashioned by Spirit Lake students Brittany Tungland, Jordyn Caquelin and Destiny Osberg, with model Carley Jensen, took third.
