NEWELL - Third-ranked Newell-Fonda notched another continuous clock victory Tuesday night at home as they built leads of 25-9 after one, and 47-16 at half, during an 85-33 drubbing of Laurens-Marathon.
Renee Maneman led a dozen Mustangs in the scoring column with 19 points, including four threes, to go with four rebounds, six assists and five steals. Taiyler Schrank added nine points, Andrea Christensen had eight points and eight rebounds, Claudia Larsen and Hailey Falline had eight points and seven boards apiece, Jade Hess cored six, and Jordan Wilken, Tayler Lago and Abby Christensen chipped in with five apiece. Morgan Rasmussen, Brianna Wells and Marianna Overgaard all scored four.
"The girls came out and played really well," said Newell-Fonda head coach Dick Jungers. "I was pleased at our intensity level. We moved the ball well on offense and our defense dictated how the game was played."
The Mustangs connected on 36-of-68 shots in the night, including 9-of-25 from three point range. They came up with 18 steals and outrebounded the Chargers, 46-25.
Lauren Link had 12 points and seven rebounds for Laurens-Marathon. Briley Sullivan had 11 points, and Brooke Runneberg and Allison Hofmaster had four apiece.
The Mustangs move to 15-1 with the win and host Class 4A Spencer (10-6) tonight. The Chargers drop to 2-15 and will host Prairie Valley Friday night.
