Tornadoes notch two dual wins in Cherokee

CHEROKEE - The Storm Lake wrestling notched two Lakes Conference win in Cherokee Thursday, besting the Braves by a 45-34 margin and Western Christian in a 45-31 final.

" They weren't pretty but they were wins." said Coach Radcliff from Storm Lake. "We were hoping for a better performance but we'll take it. Hopefully we will be able to use this and turn it into a positive experience. It seems we are on the other side of these matches and tonight was in our favor. I want to thanks all the fans that were there. Our wrestlers commented on it before we left. I think close to the entire boy's basketball team was there, a number of our teachers and parents. You would be amazed at how that made the wrestlers feel. Thanks to you all."

Against Western, the Tornadoes received forfeit victories from John Drexler at 113, Ronald Duque at 126, Juan Figueroa at 132, Juan Morales at 138, Cole Feltner at 152, Noel Buenelos at 170. Darren Eades lost a 5-2 decision ton Matt Henning at 120, Kyle Weigert lost by fall in 5:25 at 145, Austin Patrick lost 8-1 to Jacob Van Ginkle at 160, Adrian Castillo won 7-5 over Drew Hoekstra at 182, Jose Acebedo lot by fall in 1:46 and Nathan Carlson pinned Austin Gonnerman in 59 seconds at heavyweight.

Against the Braves, forfeit wins went to Drexler, Eades, Figueroa, Patrick and Castillo. Duque fell 15-3, Morales won 6-1 over Christian Lundy. Weigert was pinned in 4:30 by Andy Pitts, Cole Feltner won by pin in 34 seconds, Buenelos won by pin over Derek Bechtel in 1:15, Acebedo lost by fall in 50 seconds to Skylar Mongan and Carlson lost by pin in 3:56 to Michael Rosewall.

The Tornadoes will be at the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn tournament today. The Lakes Conference meet is scheduled for Friday.
