Alta-Aurelia's Van Houten notches 100th career win

ALTA - Alta-Aurelia senior Garrett Van Houten reached a treasured milestone in the high school wrestling world Tuesday night, picking up his 100th career victory by pinning Estherville-Lincoln Central's Chase Bonner in the first round. Van Houten, a 220-pounder, also notched a 2-1 decision over Pocahontas Area's Jeremey Watson Tuesday, moving his record on the year to 22-4.

Van Houten has won 13 of his matches by pin and has also added two major decisions.

The Warriors, unfortunately, dropped both matches in the team race, falling to Estherville-Lincoln Central, 44-27, and Pocahontas Area, 66-12.

Against E-LC, Colton Larson lost by fall in 0:48 to Easton Gifford at 106. The Warriors forfeited at 113, 120, 126 and 132, Cody Cameron won a 14-9 decision over Thomas Bortvit at 138, Junior Molina lost by fall in 4:00 at 145, Dylan Ohlson lost by tech fall 19-4 at 152, Manny Murillo lost a 7-5 decision at 160, Jackson Rosenthal pinned Jake Bortvit in 0:27, A-A conceded 182, Joe Rodriguez and Neal Felton won via forfeit at 195 and 285, respectively, and Van Houten notched his history pin at 220.

Against Poky, Larson lost by fall in 2:30, Cameron won an 8-6 decision over Connor Shoening at 132, Ben Stange lost by fall in 5:04 at 138, Ohlson lost by fall in 3:06, Molina lost by fall in 3:02, Murillo won by fall in 1:02, Rodriguez lost by fall in 0:41, Van Houten picked up his 2-1 win, and Felton lost by fall in 1:44.

Next up for the Warriors will be a trip to Sioux Rapids to take on Sioux Central/Laurens-Marathon tonight.
