LAURENS - Sioux Central had the upper hand for most of the night in Laurens Tuesday, leading the Chargers 13-6 after one, 26-20 at half and 35-34 after three, but Laurens-Marathon's second half comeback sent them past the Rebels by three, 46-43.
"This was a tough one to swallow," said Sioux Central head coach Steve Tjaden. "We had lots of opportunities but could not convert when we needed to. Our kids gave a great effort. We just needed a push at the end. Give Laurens a lot of credit. They did a nice job of controlling tempo in the second half."
Austin Glawe led the Rebels in the loss, hitting 5-of-8 from the floor and 11-of-15 at the line to pile up 21 points. He had 13 rebounds and three blocks as well. Tim Saunders followed with nine points and six rebounds, Christian Sylvester had six points, four rebounds and three assists, and Chris Ripke had five points and two assists.
Tyler Stumbo led all scorers as he turned in 26 for the Chargers on 11-of-19 shooting. Seth Hersom followed with nine points and three rebounds, and Chase Oehlertz had eight points.
The Rebels fall to 4-8 with the loss and will be at South Central Calhoun Friday. Laurens-Marathon improves to 7-5 and will host Clay Central Everly tonight and visit Pocahontas Area Friday.
