A-A's cross country team recognized for district championship, State participation
This past fall season, the Alta -Aurelia Warriors boys cross country team participated in their 2nd consecutive Cross Country State meet held in Fort Dodge. Not only did they qualify for state, but they were district champions for the first time in school history. (This includes both Alta and Aurelia's school history) They were one of just 15 teams that qualified out of the 125 - 1A teams in the state of Iowa. Recognize at a recent basktball game were the team members - alternates- Jayden Van Berkum, junior and Nathan Flaherty, senior; sophomores - Sean Berg, Trenton Delp, Ross Friedrich, Michael Swanson; and seniors - Tyler Larson, Titus Letzring, Jayson Van Haaften. Theteam was coached by head coach Wendell Larson and assistant Will Dible. They were each presented with a plaque, as well.
This team also received the Distinguished Academic Achievement Team award which honors teams successful in the classroom as well as in their sport. This award goes to state-qualifying teams whose cumulative GPA is 3.6 or higher. These nine runners easily eclipsed that mark with an Average GPA of 3.77, putting them among the top 10 boys' teams in the entire state.
Additionally, Tyler Larson received the Academic All-state award. This honor is given to state cross country participants that currently has a cumulative GPA of at least 3.8 and an A.C.T. score of at least 28. Tyler Larson was one of six individuals in 1A that received this award and was also the only recipient in his class in Northwest Iowa.
