Shatto, who didn't allow a single point on the day, secured back-to-back 10-0 major decisions before a medical forfeit landed him a spot in the finals. That is when he picked up a 3-0 decision over Hastings' Connor Blanco to win his first individual title of the year, while improving his overall record to 14-6.
Jared Bronaugh (New Market, Ala./Buckhorn) also found his way into the finals, but came up short of an individual title as he fell 10-0 to David Reck of USAFA Prep.
After a bye in the quarterfinal round put him in the semifinals, Bronaugh then advanced into the championship match following his first pin of the year.
Cameron Mennenoh (Audubon, Iowa/Audubon) (133), Steve Gutschenritter (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) (141), and Gable Bonner (285) all placed fifth for BVU, to round out the high performances.
On the year, Shatto sits at 14-6 overall, trialing just Brian Broll (184), who is 13-1. Gutschenritter sits at 11-5 overall. Bronough is 9-15 between 184 and 197. Bonner is 8-8 on the season and Cameron Mennenoh 7-7.
The Beavers will return to its dual-meet schedule on Wednesday night, January 16, 2013 when they host Loras College on Senior Day. Action inside of Siebens Fieldhouse is scheduled for 7:00pm.
