BV County Farm Bureau, Iowa Farm Bureau

The 2013 Buena Vista County Farm Bureau and Iowa Farm Bureau (IFBF) scholarship applications are now available to interested students of Iowa Farm Bureau members. The application is available on the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation website in a working PDF format. Students may also obtain a copy from the Buena Vista County Farm Bureau office or their school's guidance counselor. It is required that the application be typed so by accessing the form at HYPERLINK "http://www.iowafarmbureau.com" www.iowafarmbureau.com, students can type the application and print off the completed form.

The same application is used for both the Buena Vista County Farm Bureau and IFBF scholarships, so students only need to complete one application. As in past years, Buena Vista County Farm Bureau will be giving five scholarships totaling $1,800 to high school seniors from Farm Bureau families. The IFBF will be awarding fifty-four $1,000 scholarships to students across the state. We urge all eligible high school seniors to complete and submit their application prior to the March 1, 2013, deadline to the Buena Vista County Farm Bureau office in Storm Lake.

Shirley Sorbe Memorial Scholarship

The applications are available by contacting Buena Vista County Farm Bureau, 712-732-4004, in Storm Lake or the high school guidance counselors. Interested students may also send an email to HYPERLINK "mailto:buenavista.county@ifbf.org" buenavista.county@ifbf.org to request an application which will be attached to a return email. The application deadline is March 1.

The Shirley Sorbe Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Sorbe, a long-time resident of Buena Vista County. She was a former office assistant at Buena Vista County Farm Bureau who was starting her 39th year of employment when she passed away in 1995.

The scholarship amount is determined each fall from the interest earned on funds donated by friends and family of Sorbe when the scholarship was established.

Dr. T.E. Shea Conservation Memorial Scholarship

The Buena Vista County Soil & Water Conservation District will again be sponsoring the Dr. T.E. Shea Conservation Memorial Scholarship. A $500 scholarship will be presented to a B.V. County high school senior to be used for their first year of education on the college level while pursuing a program of study in any field of agriculture or natural resources.

This recipient will advance on to compete for a regional and state scholarship as well.
