Tornadoes edge Hinton, Western Christian at home

STORM LAKE - The Tornadoes needed a decision from Austin Patrick at 160 and a pin from Noel Buenelos at 170, but they were able to overcome forfeits at four weight classes and top Hinton at home Thursday night by a final of 39-36.

Action kicked off at the 182-pound weight class, where Adrian Castillo won a 3-0 decision over Werner Trieweiler. The Tornadoes forfeit at 195 and 220, but Nate Carlson turned in a pin in the middle of the third round at heavyweight.

The green and white forfeited again at 106, before John Drexler lost by fall in 2:50 at 113. Darraen Eades needed just 49 seconds to secure a pin for the Tornadoes at 120, and Ronald Duque fought to a 14-8 win at 126. Hinton opted to avoid the Tornadoes 132-pounder Juan Figueroa (10-0 on the season), who won by forfeit.

Juan Morales lost by fall at 138 in 4:49 to Tayler Schroeder, and the Tornadoes dropped another six points with a forfeit at 152, before Patrick (8-3) and Buenelos (5-6) posted back to back victories to secure the team win.

The Tornadoes also notched a 42-35 team win over Western Christian on the night. Drexler fell 12-1, Eaddes, Duque, Caleb Hinners and Morales all won by forfet, Ruben Aldaba lost by fall at 145, Brice Hartnett won by fall in 53 seconds at 152, Patrick lost 11-2, Buenelos won by fall in 1:11, Castillo lost by a 6-5 margin, and Carlson won by forfeit.

Storm Lake is back in action at Guthrie Center today.
