A conference will be hosted Thurs. Jan. 10 from 10-10:30 a.m. at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates at 100 Locust Street, Des Moines, to unveil a new statewide resoures for consumers and farmers to ensure compassionate, consistent care of Iowa farm animals.
This marks a first-of-its kind coalition of farmers, animal rescue workers, veterinarians and animal scientists working together for success.
Iowa Farm Animal Care's vision and mission include ensuring every Iowa farm animal receives proper care and addressing Iowans' concerns on Iowa farm animal care.
The conference will feature the following specialists during the event: the executive director of the new coalition; Tom Colvin, Animal Rescue League of Iowa Director; Anna Kerr Butters-Johnson Ph.D, Iowa State University Associate Professor of Animal Behavior and Well-Being; Suzanne Millman Ph.D, Iowa State University Associate Professor of Animal Welfare; Greg Lear, Spencer hog farmer and Dr. David Schmitt, State of Iowa Veterinarian.
IFAC is a cooperative effort between Iowa State University, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and Iowa Pork Producers Association which aims to reduce cruelty or neglect cases of farm animals, increase awareness of animal husbandry, enhance the image of Iowa farmers and their working relationship with other farm groups.
