10-0: Mustangs rain 12-threes on Poky
POCAHONTAS - Third-ranked Newell-Fonda pushed their unbeaten streak to 10-straight Friday as they poured in 12 three-pointers in a 71-36 rout of Pocahontas Area, their first game back from the break.
Taiyler Schrank knocked down four triples on her way to 16 points. Jordan Wilken knocked down three on her way to 11, Brianna Wells and Missy Morenz knocked down two apiece for eight and six points, respectively. Andrea Christensen had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Renee Maneman had seven points and five assists.
Eight different Mustangs scored as they knocked down 24-of-54 overall, 12-of-27 from three and 11-of-17 at the line.
"This was a good win against a solid Poky-PP team," said Newell-Fonda head coach Dick Jungers. "They played us real tough in the first half. We really struggled to get continuity on offense but we played well enough on defense to hold them at bay. The second half, we were able to expand the lead with timely shooting and aggressiveness on defense."
N-F led 12-6 after one and 27-17 at half, before putting up 44 in the second half.
The Mustangs welcome in Sioux Central tonight before a big measuring stick game Thursday in Newell against Estherville-Lincoln Central (10-1, #3 in 3A).
