A convicted sex offender is being released from the Civil Commitment Unit in Cherokee, and will be residing at 108 N. Neptune in Marathon, according to a public safety alert from county sheriff's officials.

Ryan Ray Hoffert was convicted of multiple counts of lascivious acts with a male child age 13 and under in 1996, and was again convicted of lascivious acts with a child in 2001. The Civil Unit is a program that serves those who have completed their sentence but are deemed not ready to be released. Hoffert is one of the first to be released from the unit, Launderville said. He has been working in Storm Lake on work release through the unit.

Hoffert, 34, has also been known to use the name Ryan Kelley.
