Gun scare proves false in family disturbance

Monday, January 7, 2013

Storm Lake Police were called to 713 College Street Monday night on a report of a criminal trespass.

A woman told officers that her ex-husband, identified as Jose Palmerin, age 22 of Storm Lake, had allegedly entered her residence and was upset over child custody issues. Palmerin reportedly damaged some property in the residence as he was looking for his ex-wife's boyfriend. He then left the site.

Palmerin had allegedly contacted by phone another family member and advised he had a gun and then he hung up. Police began searching for Palmerin and a police negotiator was able to make contact with Palmerin by phone and successfully get him to surrender to police near the intersection of Flindt Drive and Russell Street. Palmerin showed up at that location and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police did not locate a weapon and Palmerin reportedly told police he never had a weapon and was just angry.

Following an investigation police arrested Palmerin and charged him with Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief 5th Degree and Harassment. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $900 cash bond.
