Free training for Class C restaurants

Friday, January 4, 2013

The Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant in Buena Vista County, in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Health and Compass Pointe, is offering free Training for Intervention Procedures to all 41 Class C establishments in Buena Vista County in January.

Class C establishments include taverns, bars and restaurants that sell liquor, wine, beer and wine coolers for consumption on premises and carry-out sales in original unopened containers.

The TIPS training is a dynamic, skill-based program designed to prevent intoxication, drunk driving and underage drinking by enhancing people skills of servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol. TIPS helps individuals understand the difference between people enjoying themselves and those who are getting into trouble with alcohol.

Employers and managers who participate are able to spot underage drinkers and prevent sales to minors, recognize signs of intoxication, effectively intervene to prevent problem situations and handle refusal situations with greater confidence.

Benefits of the program to establishments include reduced exposre to alcohol liability lawsuits, reduced penalties for alcohol violations, possible lowered insurance premiums, prevention of property damage and improved customer service and satisfaction.

If you are a server or looking for a job serving, this training will enhance your skills.
