Orville John Wells, son of Lloyd and Margaret (Hammen) Wells, was born May 16, 1931, near Jolley.
Orville received his education at St. Columbkille School in Varina. After graduation, Orville farmed for one year. He then went into the United States Army for two years spending eighteen months in Germany. After returning home, Orville married Betty Kirby on Sept. 18, 1954. Orville and Betty lived in Storm Lake until the spring of 1956 when they moved to a farm two miles east of Storm Lake. In 1960, they moved to a farm just west of Fonda, and in 1983 they moved to the home they built two miles south of Fonda. Their marriage was blessed with five sons.
Orville was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish and the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father. When Betty's debilitating illness made it impossible for her to do things for herself, Orville became her devoted caretaker. Orville enjoyed spending time with family, bowling, golfing, dancing, playing cards, and spending the winter months in Arizona.
Orville is survived by sons: Rodney (Bonnie), Michael (Kellie), Robert (Lona), Gary (Jennifer); 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Siela.
Orville was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Lloyd and Margaret Wells; son, Larry Joe; brothers: Deland, Marlyn and Willis; and one sister, Naomi Fitzpatrick.
