Storm Lake struggles continue in Spencer, 53-15

SPENCER - The Storm Lake girl's basketball team was held without a first quarter point for the third time in their last four games last Friday as another slow start sent them to their ninth straight loss of the season, and 51st overall in a 53-15 setback in Spencer.

The green and white trailed 9-0 after one, 31-7 at half and 42-10 after three.

The Tigers totaled 21 steals and took advantage of 38 Storm Lake turnovers on the night. Eight different girls scored for Spencer, led by 12 points and six rebounds from Heather Williamson. Kirstin Martindale added eight points, eight rebounds and four blocks. The Tigers made 21-of-57 from the floor and 10-of-16 at the foul line.

Brenna Richter had a team-high four points for Storm Lake. She added three rebounds. Chyann Smith and three points and three rebounds, and Megan Miller, Emily Johnson, Annabelle Eades and Erin Schuelke scored two points apiece.

Storm Lake was 3-of-33 from the floor, 1-of-8 from three and 8-of-19 at the line.

The Tornadoes will have one of their best chances to break into the win column when they return to action next Friday as they host Cherokee (1-8).
