Beavers ranking high nationally in statistical categories

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Buena Vista women's and men's basketball teams are not only posting several wins as of late, both squads are also ranking high nationally in a handful of categories thru games played as of December 16, 2012.

On the women's side, the Beavers rank 28th among the 450 ranked Division III teams in scoring offense, averaging 73.4 points per contest. The three-point shooting also has the Beavers ranked high, as they sit 12th in three-point field goals per game average (8.0). Junior Susan Kies (Fonda, Iowa/Newell-Fonda) is 16th, individually, in that category, making an average of 3.0 per outing. The national leader is turning in 3.88.

BVU is also 18th in assists per game, averaging 17.3, while sitting 27th in assist-to-turnover-ratio (0.98).

On the men's side, the Beavers are 12th nationally in assists per game amongst the 408 ranked DIII teams, averaging 18.2. The national leader is 22.7. It's also 15th in assist-to-turnover-ratio (1.36). Sophomore Alex Savage (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) is ninth, individually, averaging 3.44 per contest.

Also on the individual side, senior Wes Nordquist (Adel, Iowa/ADM) ranks 19th in rebounding, averaging 10.9. He's also 15th in double-doubles with five.

The BVU women are currently 7-4 overall, while the men sit at 6-3. Both teams are off until the men travel out west to California to play at the University of Redlands on December 29 and at Pomona-Pitzer on December 30. The two will then return to action on Saturday, January 5, 2013, to open the Iowa Conference schedule against Simpson College. Tip-offs are set for 2:00pm (women), 4:00pm (men).
