Memorial services will be held Sunday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m. at the First United Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church with the family present. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
Lorene K. Wise, the daughter of Darlene (Hughes) Wise, was born in Storm Lake on May 19, 1957. She lived her youth in Linn Grove and was a 1975 graduate of the Sioux Valley High School. Following her graduation, she attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
On July 5, 1980, Lori was united in marriage to James Carlson at their current home in rural Sioux Rapids and this couple was blessed with two sons: Joshua and Jacob. Throughout her lifetime, Lori has been a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was abundantly blessed with the gift of being a care-giver to her family.
Lori faithfully attended and served at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids. She enjoyed doing all types of craft work and had attended craft fairs and made many memorable Christmas gifts for her family and friends. Tending to her garden was another favorite pastime of Lori's. She especially enjoyed her "sister-in-law" weekends and vacations and made many fond memories. Lori will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a very engaging and social person who cherished the times she could spend with all of them.
Lori's life will always be cherished by her family which include her husband, James Carlson of Sioux Rapids; two sons: Joshua Carlson and his wife, Sarah, of Cedar Falls; and Jacob Carlson of Spencer and his fiancée, Allie Vasquez, of Linn Grove; her mother, Darlene Wise of Linn Grove; six brothers: Dennis (Brigitte) Wise of Heltersburg, Germany; Dwain(Karen) Wise of Sweet Home, Ore.; Emmett (Marlene) Wise of Defiance; Randy Wise of Sioux Rapids; Jim (Deb) Wise of Sioux Rapids; and Mickey Wise of Peterson; many precious nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; other extended family and her many friends .
She was preceded in death by her sister, Denise Wise, on Oct. 1, 2012.
