The Alta Kiwanis met at Wel-Life on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
Speaker was Megan Peterson. Megan is president of the Alta Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Their motto is "helping teachers teach and students learn".
Alta PTO consists of 16 active members and 10-15 women who do crafts and prepare food. They meet once a month on Thursdays at Scooter's.
The PTO communicates with teachers as to their classroom needs. Some of their yearly projects include a back-to-school supper in August, participating in the homecoming parade, sale of wreaths in October, and an elementary dance with a different theme held in April. Money raised from these projects goes back to the classrooms for supplies and gifts. Last year a book fair was held during which classroom teachers received $100 to buy books for their students.
Combined with a grant from Ag Partners -a 50-50 share - the PTO was able to obtain two defibrillators for the school.
