Wednesday, December 19, 2012

ALTA - The Alta-Aurelia boy's basketball team played a pair on Friday and Saturday as they topped Prairie Valley at home, 68-37, before falling to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on the road, 52-36.

In their win Friday, Mitchell McDonald had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Colton Ballantyne ahd 12 points and four steals. Jayson Van Haaften added 11 points and four assists, Nathan Flaherty scored seven, and Jayden Van Berkum and Titus Letzring scored six apiece.

The Warriors opened with a 20-3 first quarter on the way to the victory, their third of the season.

""What a great team win," said head coach Randy Bissen. "We did everything right tonight. Our defense was great, we passed the ball well, we made shots, and we rebounded. Everybody contributed in one way or another. We controlled the basketball game right from the start and did a nice job of being the aggressors. We'll see if we can continue the momentum into our next couple of games before break."

Against H-M-S, the Warriors saw a five point halftime lead erased as they were outscored 38-17 over the final two quarters.

Van Berkum led the way with nine points in that contest. Ballantyne and Ross Friedrich had six apiece.

The Warriors (3-5) return to action tonight at home as they host Newell-Fonda in their final contest before the holiday break.
