Wednesday, December 12, 2012

SAC CITY - The Newell-Fonda boy's basketball team picked up a big road victory Friday night as they scratched and clawed their way to a 59-53 victory over East Sac County.

A back and forth game saw the Mustangs take a 10-8 lead after one, only to trail 27-26 at half time. A 9-0 run midway in the third put them up 35-32, but the Raiders closed within 42-41 entering the final frame. The Mustangs went on to hold a 17-12 edge in fourth to lock up the win.

"A hard fought battle," said Newel-Fonda head coach Paul Loos. "East Sac gave us everything they could. We got down early in the third, but our defense and transition game provided us a 9-0 run in the third. We got to the free throw time 11 times in the fourth. Great conference win on the road. Credit goes to a team effort."

Dalton Anderson led the way, going 7-of-10 from the field for 17 points. He added 14 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Dillon Anderson had nine points and four assists, Rigo Johnson had nine points, Brady Bohe had seven points and two rebounds, Andrew Temple had five points, 10 rebounds and four assists, Jake Hahn had five points and five boards, Jon Johnson had four points and Brady Dicks three.
