Sioux Central holds off Alta-Aurelia, 38-34

Friday, December 7, 2012

SIOUX RAPIDS - The Sioux Central girls opened up a 15-6 lead after one quarter of play Tuesday night at home against Alta-Aurelia, and that would prove to be just enough breathing room as the Warriors nipped and pecked at the deficit but were unable to claw all the way back in a 38-34 final.

Hallie Ehlers led the way for the Rebels, putting up 13 points on a 4-of-5 shooting effort. She added four rebounds as well.

Senior Taylor Fahnlander added eight points, seven rebounds and seven steals.

Bailey McGuire had six points and four steals, Erin Rachuy four points, four rebounds and three steals, Becca Herwig four points and three rebounds, and Nicole Hamilton turned in three points, six rebounds and three steals.

Sioux Central overcame arguably their roughest shooting night of the year thus far as they connected on just 10-of-43 attempts from the floor and 15-of-33 at the line.

They did come up with 20 steals on the defensive end, however.

The loss is the fourth straight to open the year for Alta-Aurelia.

They were led by seven points and 12 rebounds from Taler Stanton.

Jenna Snyder had six points and eight boards, Katie Turnquist had six points, and Gracie Winterhof and Kelsi Snyder had five points apiece.

The Warriors shot 13-of-42 from the floor and 4-of-11 from three. They would get to the line just six times on the night, making four.

Sioux Central now sits at 4-3 on the year and will be at Manson-Northwest Webster (3-1) Friday. The Warriors are also on the road as they head to Pocahontas Area. They visit Trinity Christian in Hull on Saturday.
