LAURENS - The 4th-ranked Newell-Fonda girls opened up a 27-4 first quarter and coasted the rest of the way en route to a 43-point win over Laurens-Marathon on the road Tuesday night, 69-26.

Brianna Wells led four Mustangs in double figures with 12 points on four three-pointers. Andrea Christensen had 11 points and Renee Maneman and Taiyler Schrank 10 apiece. Maddie Morenz and Claudia Larsen added eight apiece.

"This was a good win for us as we did a good job of dictating on defense, and it always helps to hit 10 three-pointers," said Newell-Fonda head coach Dick Jungers.

Lauren Link led the Chargers in the loss with 13 points. Brooke Runneberg added nine.

The Mustangs now sit at 4-0 on the season. They visit North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted (3-0) tonight and East Sac County (3-2) Friday.

The Chargers (0-3) visit Southeast Webster-Grand Friday.
