A Celebration of Life Gathering was held from 1:-6:00 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Jaycee's Shelter House in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller was in charge of the arrangements.
Colleen Elizabeth Whalen was born Nov. 3, 1938, in Storm Lake, the daughter of Fritz and Marie (Quirk) Whalen. She lived with her family in Schaller where she attended school. Her high school education was split between Schaller High School and Joliet High School in Joliet, Ill. Following her high school graduation, Coco attended ICCC in Sioux City and Fort Dodge.
On Dec. 26, 1955, Colleen was united in marriage to Richard Werkmeister in Jackson, Minn. This union was blessed with five children: Bill, Jeanne, Julie, Larry and Amy.
Many of Coco's hobbies included reading, watching movies and traveling. Special trips she made that held great significance were to Ireland and Mexico. She loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them.
Those left to cherish Coco's memory include her sons: Bill (Joleen) Werkmeister of Harwood, Mo.; Larry (Kim) Werkmeister of Coon Rapids, Minn.; daughters: Jeanne (Willie) Cullor of Unionville, Mo.; Julie Werkmeister of Schaller; Amy (Mike Morrow) Messerschmitt of Schaller; grandchildren: Jeremy, Staci, Jeni, Rik, Bobbi Jo, Michele, Patrick, Jay, Emily, Layla, Stephen, Emily, Elizabeth, Richard; great-grandchildren: Spencer, Cody, Hope, Hailey, Hunter, Andy, Brenda, Madison, Mason, Austin, Mackenzie, Hunter, Jasmynne, Rosemary, and Jasper; sisters: Patricia (Carroll) Cone of Alta; Nancy Whalen of Minneapolis, Minn.; Micky (Pat) Thynne of Davenport; and Mimi Rohweder of Conway, Ark.; extended family and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents and her husband, Richard.
