The Alta Kiwanis met Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Wel-Life.
"Play for each other" is the motto guest speaker Rory Payne uses to describe the Alta-Aurelia girls' basketball team.
Mr. Payne is the A-A girls' head basketball coach. He has taught school for 27 years. He coached girls basketball several years ago, so when a vacancy came up this year Superintendent Evans talked him into the position. There are 15 girls participating in the sport. Among that group are six seniors, two juniors and one sophomore. Although they are a young inexperienced group, the girls put in a lot of hard work and hustle. Their record is 0-3 so far. The team is confident of several wins this season.
Upcoming activities of the club: pop can collection Friday, Dec. 7; Dec 19 911 project which is teaching kindergarten through second graders proper
use of 911.
Paperwork for various grants have been submitted and they are awaiting the results. A bouquet of flowers was sent to Claudina Grienke for all the time and effort she put into getting grant paperwork together.
Greg Kueny requested help from the club to help pay for seventh and eighth graders to attend the 84th annual tri-state basketball tournament in
Sioux Falls, SD in March. A motion was made and seconded to support this project with a $100 donation.
