December news from the Albert City Library
Can you believe it? Thanksgiving is over and we are now gearing up for Christmas!
Our library will soon be taking on a new look getting all accessorized for the holiday.
Lily and the Legend of Santa Claus was a huge hit with the children at the Albert City-Truesdale Elementary School on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. It was a great way to start the Christmas Season. The children learned that "Christmas starts in your heart!" Lisa Laird, accomplished ventriloquist/puppeteer, kept the children engaged with a fun, interactive program. Lisa's puppets were very inquisitive and kept the audience captivated. Christmas traditions were explored - card sending, snowman making, storytelling, singing special songs, candy and cookie treats galore and so much more. A great time was had by young and old alike. Thank you, Lisa, for a great start to our holiday. The library was given a DVD of their movie "Lily and the Legend of Santa Claus" starring Lisa, Lily, Jemimah and Santa Claus. Sit down with your kids and enjoy this special presentation.
Christmas is the theme this month for books in all categories and movies. There are some great children's books again: "Turkey Claus" is another fabulous book by Wendi Silvano about Turkey's plight to stay off the Christmas dinner list as main course and his hilarious new ideas for costumes to get into see Santa at the North Pole. "The Carpenter's Gift" is a story about the Rockefeller Center Tree. "Room for a Little One" is a beautifully illustrated story about the stable and animals at Bethlehem. Other stories to read to your little ones are: "Snowmen at Christmas," "Bear Stays Up for Christmas," "Pete the Cat Saves Christmas" and "Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas."
Adult Fiction Christmas includes: "Amish Gift" by Cynthia Keller, "Angels at the Table" by Debbie Macomber, "Bridge" by Karen Kingsbury, "Christmas Pony" by Melody Carlson, "Season of Angels" by Thomas Kinkade, "Winter Dream" by Richard Paul Evans, and "A Christmas Home" by Gregory D. Kincaid.
There are lots of new Christmas movies this month for your viewing pleasure: "Borrowed Hearts," "Annie Claus is Coming to Town," "The Dog Who Saved Christmas," "Holiday Engagement," "Arthur Christmas," "A Christmas Kiss," "Under the Mistletoe," "A Princess for Christmas" and "Trading Christmas."
