Wanted person turns self in

* On Wednesday, Nov. 28, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a person being sought by the Storm Lake Police Department surrendered herself at the Storm Lake Police Station.

Police arrested Amanda Kimbro, age 18 of Cedar Rapids, on a warrant charging her with Possession of a Controlled Substance (marijuana) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The warrants stemmed from a search warrant which was executed on Kimbro's vehicle on Nov. 13, at which time police allegedly located and seized a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Kimbro was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and released after posting a $1,000 cash bond.

* On Wednesday, Nov. 28, at approximately 4:23 a.m. a Storm Lake Police officer stopped a vehicle in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue in reference to a traffic violation.

Upon contacting the driver identified as Richard Martin Bergen, age 43 of Albert City, it was determined he was wanted out of Buena Vista County in reference to the offense of OWI.

Police arrested Bergen and booked him into the Buena Vista County Jail where he was held without bond.

Violation of No Contact

* On Wednesday, Nov. 28 at approximately 7:42 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Subway Shop on North Lake Avenue in reference to a report of two persons violating a No Contact Order.

Upon arrival of police they made contact with Janet Almendarez, age 18, and Rolando Almendarez, age 18, both of Storm Lake. Police allege the two were together in the establishment in violation of a court order which stemmed from a previous domestic situation.

Police arrested both Almendarezs and charged them both with Violation of a No Contact Order. Both persons were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

Accidents

* On Nov. 6, at approximately 4:02 p.m., in the 500th block of E. Milwaukee in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Walter Morris of Newell was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Raymond Mueller of Blair, Neb. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $750. Morris was cited for Failure to Stop in a Safe and Assured Distance.

* On Nov. 6, at approximately 6:41 p.m., in the 6000th block of Hwy 110 in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Matthew Ung of Storm Lake struck a bridge railing causing total damages estimated at $1,000.

* On Nov. 12, at approximately 12:24 p.m., at the intersection of Milwaukee and Lake in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Tiffiany Lingbeck of Okabena, Minn. was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Jennifer Klemesrud of Washington, causing one injury and total damages estimated at $4,000.

* On Nov. 19, at approximately 3:26 p.m., in the 1400th block of W. Milwaukee in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Kurt Rasmus of Holstein, was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Mariah Santellan of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing one injury and total damages estimated at $3,000. Rasmus was cited for Failure to Stop in a Safe and Assured Distance.

* On Nov. 19, at approximately 10:31 a.m., at the intersection of E. Railroad and Lake in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Edilberto Rodriguez of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Catherine Madson of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $1,000. Rodriguez was cited for Failure to Have Valid License. Madson was cited for Failure to Stop in a Safe and Assured Distance.

* On Nov. 20, at approximately 3:41 p.m., at 621 Tornado Drive in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Asuzena Soria of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Zachary Nierling of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $300.

* On Nov.21, at approximately 3:27 p.m., at the intersection of Geisinger and E. 4th in Storm Lake, a vehicle drivne by Joseph Bird of Newell, was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Bidong Yak of Storm Lake. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $1,800. Bird was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Entering Highway.

* On Nov. 25, at approximately 3:30 p.m., in the 400th block of Superior Street in Storm Lake, an unknown vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Alejandro Zavala Cano of Storm Lake. Damages were estimated at $450.

Wanted man arrested

* On the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 28, at approximately 4:23 a.m. a Storm Lake Police officer stopped a vehicle in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue in reference to a traffic violation.

Domestic assault

* On Friday, Nov. 23, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Storm Lake Police took a report of a domestic assault which occurred at approximately midnight Friday morning.

Police were advised that a male suspect, identified as Sergio Flores, 27 of Storm Lake, had been in an argument with his partner in the 500 block of East 3rd Street at which time Flores allegedly assaulted his partner by striking him the face. In addition, the victim told police that Flores reportedly texted him harassing messages following the assault.

Police further learned during the investigation that Flores allegedly assaulted a second male at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday at a residence located at 1112 East 3rd Street.

Police located Flores at 401 Cayuga Street #B7 and arrested him. He was charged with Domestic Assault 3rd Offense (class D felony), Simple Assault and Harassment (both simple misdemeanors). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

* On Saturday, Nov. 24,at approximately 7:19 p.m., a Storm Lake Police officer while on patrol observed two persons allegedly riding together in a vehicle that were court ordered not to be with other based on a prior incident of domestic violence.

Police stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Barton Street and West Milwaukee and made contact with the occupants identified as Stevie Harrington, age 46, and Veronica Anderson, age 46, both of Storm Lake.

In addition police had been looking for Anderson in reference to a previous incident of violation of a no contact order which allegedly occurred on Nov. 23.

Following an investigation police arrested Harrington and charged him with Violation of a No Contact Order and No Valid Drivers License. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

Police charged Anderson with two counts of Violation of a No contact Order. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

* On Sunday, Nov. 25, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department took a report of two incidents of domestic assault which had previously occurred in Storm Lake.

The reporting party told police that on June 26, 2011 her husband, identified as David Diaz Cortez, age 48 of Storm Lake, had allegedly armed himself with a knife while at their residence at 907 East 1st Street and threatened to kill the reporting party and then himself. He armed himself with a knife at which time the victim attempted to kick the knife out of Cortez's hands at which time she sustained a laceration to her foot which required medical attention. The incident was not reported to police when it occurred.

The victim further told police that on Oct. 6, 2012 Cortez allegedly physically assaulted her at their residence and shoved her to the ground. The incident was not reported to police when it occurred.

Police conducted an investigation into the two incidents and subsequently charged Cortez with Domestic Assault While Displaying a Weapon (aggravated misdemeanor), Willful Injury (class D felony) and Domestic Assault 2nd Offense (serious misdemeanor).

Cortez was already in the Buena Vista County Jail following his arrest by the Storm Lake Police Department Nov. 24 on the charges of OWI 2nd Degree and Driving While Revoked. Cortez is being held without bond.

Hit and run accident

* On Wednesday, Nov. 21, at approximately 9:10 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 700 block of West 6th Street in reference to a hit and run accident.

Upon arrival of police they met with the reporting party - Sarah Gore, age 30 of Storm Lake - who advised police she was traveling westbound on West 6th Street in her 2005 Chrysler van when another vehicle described as a green 200 Hyundai struck the reporting party's vehicle head on. The second vehicle then departed the scene. As the victim was speaking with police the suspect's vehicle drove by and was subsequently stopped by police in the 500 block of Otsego Street.

Police identified the driver of the hit and run vehicle as Pamila Phontida Vongdeuane, age 19 of Storm Lake. Police allege that Vongdeuane was intoxicated and in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Following an investigation police charged Vongdeuane with OWI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Alcohol, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving on the Wrong Side of a Roadway. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,900 cash bond.

Gore's vehicle sustained approximately $400 in damage and the Vongdeuane vehicle sustained approximately $200 in damage.

No injuries were reported.

Wanted person arrested

* On Wednesday, Nov. 21, at approximately 11:15 p.m., a Storm Lake Police officer observed a wanted person in the 200 block of Flindt Drive.

Police made contact with and arrested Ashanti Jenkins, age 24 of Storm Lake, who was wanted on the charge of Failure to Appear in Court reference Burglary 3rd Degree.

He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond.
