The new area 1, including Buena Vissta County, will be served by an expanded Elderbridge program.
Following a legislative change in Iowa law to reduce the number of Iowa's Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs), the Commission on Aging met on November 15, and designated six new organizations as Area Agencies on Aging to serve older Iowans.

Beginning July 1, 2013, Elderbridge Agency on Aging will serve as the Area Agency on Aging for the newly established Planning and Service Area 1 - which includes Buena Vista County and the surrounding area to the north, south and east.

As Elderbridge expands to serve the larger Planning and Service Area, it will use all means reasonably available to make sure that the customers of the enlarged area and their providers continue to work with familiar faces. "Our goal is to ensure that the clients do not experience a negative impact on services currently available to them," said Elderbridge Executive Director Mick Tagesen.

Elderbridge looks forward to serving this new area by continuing the successful services currently offered, while adding services to improve the lives of older adults and their caregivers in a manner consistent with resources and state and federal laws, regulations and goals, Tagensen said.

Further details regarding the reorganization of the Planning and Service Areas, as well as plans for covering the enlarged area will be shared with the public as soon as they are available.
