Average retail gasoline prices in Iowa rose 1.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.28/gallon for super unleaded by the start of the week. Storm Lake pump prices increased much faster, going from as low as $3.01 less than two weeks ago to $3.19 to begin this week. This compares with the national average that has not moved in the last week at $3.43/gallon.
Including the change in gas prices in Iowa during the past week, prices are 5.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 12.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago in the region.
Thanksgiving Day 2012 featured the highest ever daily average for the holiday, beating out 2011 by over 10-cents per gallon. Experts are predicting little change by Christmas.
