Bennett brings leather/sheepskin products to Sugar Bowl, adding winery and mountain man school presentation

Monday, November 26, 2012

Dick Bennett, proprietor of Rembrandt Leather, has had another busy season.

After building a new home in Rembrandt, Bennett said he is moving the leatherworks "world headquarters" to that town.

Bennett will be appearing at Miracle on Lake Avenue on Dec. 6 in the window at Sugar Bowl to demonstrate sewing sheepskin. A giveaway for one of his products is also planned.

Sugar Bowl will begin carrying a line of Bennett's products such as hats, mittens, can coolers, pan handles, and his ever-popular sheepskin slippers.

Bennett is also working on a longterm project to establish a winery. He has produced 400 bottles this year including a cranberry wine that he is very pleased with, but sales to the public will need to wait for a state permit. Bennett plans to put up a new building to house the winery before taking that step.

A longtime member of the Cherokee Ridge Runners, Bennett is also working on a presentation on the lifestyle of "mountain man" pioneers for the Storm Lake schools, which will be scheduled for early next month.
