A group of Buena Vista University future science teachers had the opportunity to work with students from the Storm Lake Middle School's after school program - the Tornado Learning Club - recently when the two groups met at the new Discovery Center boardwalk on Little Storm Lake.

The adventure was arranged by SLMS science teacher Karen Hixon and BVU Science professor Dr. Melinda Coogan.

"I think it's important to collaborate with BVU and with Dr. Coogan and her expertise," said Hixon, adding the new discovery center is a perfect outdoor classroom not for only this group but for other groups as well.

The BVU science students all want to be teachers so this was a "good learning opportunity for them to work with kids," added Dr. Coogan.

The group walked the board walk and stopped several times to allow the BVU students to talk about what they were seeing and to ask the younger students questions.
