STORM LAKE -- Buena Vista senior linebacker Nick Plueger has been selected to play in the fourth annual DIII Senior Classic which will take place in Salem, Va., on Friday, December 7, 2012. A total of 70 players from across DIII have been selected to take part in this North vs. South all-star format.
"It's a huge honor to be selected to participate in the D3 Senior Bowl in Virginia," says Plueger." "It will definitely be a memorable experience, and I look forward to competing with 70 of the top seniors in the nation."
Plueger, who was recently named to the All-Iowa Conference First Team Defense, finished his season as the nation's leading tackler, averaging 14.2 stops per contest. He posted a career-high 142 stops overall, a mark that was just six shy of matching the program's single-season record. He came into the year with only 18 career tackles.
"Nick had a great senior year," said BVU head coach Jay Anderson. "He was one that had to wait until later in his career before becoming a starter, and to his credit, he made the most of it. He had a solid year and is very deserving of the selection to play in this post season game."
Hosted by the Collegiate Developmental Football League (CDFL), the event is the only game exclusively dedicated to showcase the top DIII players from across the country. Scouts from various leagues, including the NFL, CFL, UFL, IFL and AFL will be on hand to scout throughout the event.
Kick-off of the game is scheduled for 7:00pm.
