While most people are still planning their Thanksgiving feasts, thoughts for the organizers of Miracle on Lake Avenue are already filled with jingle bells.
At a meeting Wednesday, the theme for this year's version of the celebration was selected: "Believe in the Magic of Storm Lake."
Miracle on Lake Avenue will be held Dec. 6. Entertainment, kids activities and warming stations are planned for 5-8 p.m. Santa's Secret Shop for children's Christmas shopping opens at 5:30, the lighted parade begins at 6 p.m. along the route downtown, and immediately afterward, the tree-lighting ceremony at the courthouse will take place with Santa as the special guest. The tree used for this event was planted and grown especially for this purpose. Santa's Castle will also be open for the evening.
Last year's parade had 40 entries. Businesses, individuals, youth groups, clubs and more are urged to consider entering a float, and anyone interested may contact Paige Baskerville at Storm Lake United, 732-3780.
"Miracle on Lake Avenue really brings the community together. It's just a great way to ring in the holiday spirit," Baskerville says.
Many details remain to be worked out as organizers are working hard to get ready for the event. Look for more details on the events to come.
