Injured employee on Tyson roof top
On the morning of Tuesday, November 13, at approximately 7:43 a.m., the Storm Lake Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to the Tyson Fresh Meats Plant located at 1009 Richland Drive in reference to a report of an injured worker on a rooftop at the facility.
Upon arrival of public safety personnel they were directed to the "load out area" at the plant where an employee of a roof contractor had been struck by a pallet of materials as it was being lowered onto the roof top.
Fire fighters utilizing an aerial platform fire truck accessed the roof top and assisted by paramedics, successfully lowered the victim to the ground to a waiting ambulance.
The victim, identified as Jose Ramos, age 29 of Des Moines, was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by paramedics for treatment.
The Storm Lake Fire and Police Departments were on scene for approximately 30 minutes and were assisted at the scene by the Buena Vista County Paramedics.
Assault at Middle School
On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 13, at approximately 12:15 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department took a report at the Storm Lake Middle School of an assault.
Upon meeting with the victims police were told that a juvenile male, identified as a 12 year old male of Storm Lake, had allegedly assaulted two female students on multiple occasions during the month of October and early November by inappropriately touching the victims.
Police conducted an investigation and on Tuesday afternoon arrested the 12 year old male of Storm Lake and charged him with 7 counts of Assault (simple misdemeanor). He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.
The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
Possession of a
On Monday, November 12, at approximately 8:40 p.m., a wanted person surrendered himself at the Storm Lake Police Station.
Police arrested Kailab Hendrickson, age 21 of Cherokee, who was wanted out of Buena Vista County on a warrant charging him with Possession of a Controlled Substance (class D felony). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.
On November 3, a burglary was reported at 1123 E. Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake. The total value of the items reported missing was estimated at $150.
On November 2, at approximately 10:40 p.m., in the 900th block of Hwy 110 in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Josue Rodriguez of Storm Lake struck a deer. Total damages were estimated at $2,000.
On November 7, at approximately 5:35 p.m., at the intersection of Railroad and Richland in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Lynette Schable of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Donald Jennings of Harris, and a third vehicle driven by Pamela Bogue of Rembrandt. The three vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $1,050.
On November 8, at approximately 11:59 a.m., in the 100th block of E. 5th Street in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Luis Moran-Martinez of Storm Lake, struck a parked vehicle owned by Veronica Steffen of Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $400.
On the morning of Wednesday, November 14, at approximately 4:14 a.m., the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 401 Cayuga Street in reference to an automated fire alarm.
Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that cooking smoke on the first floor activated the alarm.
There was no fire and no damage.
The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and assisted by the Storm Lake Police Department.
