The Storm Lake Library Board Monday afternoon is expected to approve updates to its expansion project.
During the meeting, City Manager Jim Patrick said he and board members will examine additional ideas for moving the project forward.
"I think we need to take a step back and look at all the options that are out there right now and determine what the best course of action will be in the future," Patrick told the Pilot-Tribune, noting a bond issue could prove difficult.
No concrete alternatives have yet been proposed.
Iowa-based architectural firm FEH Associates drew up a $7 million plan last winter, while council earlier this year considered relocating the library to a refurbished South School community center, but neither concept has progressed.
